StorySide:B — whose lead single, “Miracle,” is already a Christian pop radio hit — is a 5-piece rock band that formed in Northeast Florida in 2003. After winning the band section of a nationally televised competition and touring successfully as an independent act, StorySide:B connected with tobyMac and soon signed to his Gotee Records label. The band’s debut record Everything and More, produced by StorySide:B guitarist/vocalist Lu Rubino and mixed by J.R. McNeeley, showcases the band’s layers of guitars, rich melodies and clear, universal, faith-inspired lyrics. In addition to Rubino, the band is comprised of drummer Jordan Mohilowski, guitarist Matt Lande, bassist/pianist Ron McClelland and guitarist Preston Pohl.

Paul: Tell me about winning the nationally televised band competition. Lu: There were more than 1,400 contestants in the “Exalting Him National Talent Search” in 2003, and Jordan and I — with only acoustic guitars — won the group division and were first runner up for the whole shebang. We had an estimated 2.8 million viewers.

Paul: What’s the meaning behind your band’s name? Lu: “StorySide:B” references the difference between what we see outwardly and what is going on behind the scenes in the hearts of everyone. We must all learn to have tolerance and non-judgement of our brothers and sisters because we’ll never truly know what’s going on below the surface. We need to put an end to prejudgement and legalism now.

Paul: Why did you choose Gotee Records as a label home? Lu: In a sea of labels and production companies, Gotee seemed the best fit for us. Fun-loving, hard-working, God-loving men and women who have integrity, vision and a great balance between art and pop-sense.

Paul: What is your ideal place to play? Lu: A clear, starry night on the oceanside by a fire with all my friends and family. Carnegie Hall wouldn’t be too bad either [smile].

Paul: What is your song “It’s Not Over” about? Lu: “It’s Not Over” tells us that it’s not too late to get your heart right. It’s never too late to begin again. You can do it right now! Carpe Diem. Via Con Dios.
