Reflection #2 on 'Soldiers' by Out
of Eden
Well you know there's a reason
We're here to change the world
And you know I'm believing
We
can do it, but it's up to you Are you a world changer? Well,
if you are a Christian, a follower of Christ, then that is
exactly what you are!
"Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to
present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable
to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do
not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will
of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect"
(Romans 12:1-2 NASB).
We are not to be conformed or changed by the world but to
effect change in the world around us. Listen to what was said
about the apostle Paul:
"But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some
brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, 'These who
have turned the world upside down have come here too'" (Acts
17:6 NKJV).
God has invested His future in you. He has adopted you as
His very own child and as such He has placed you in this world
at this hour to represent Him. How will the world know the
will of God? How will those who do not read His Word know
His determination of right and wrong? How will they see His
ways? By looking at you.
You are His representative. You prove to others the acceptable
will of God. People should know there is something different
about you. They should know you don't talk like others-no
gossip, no backbiting, no slander or lies. They should know
you don't react the way the rest of the world does-no undo
anger, no bitterness, no revenge. You are a soldier.
In the song "Soldiers," Out of Eden explodes musically with
a declaration that we are soldiers in a battle. We are soldiers
of the light representing God and His judgments of right and
wrong. We war not with people but with systems and powers.
We war with the world's ways. We war with our own flesh to
do the right thing.
So take up arms, the Word of God, and prepare to assault the
socially accepted norms of this world that are contrary to
the Scriptures. Get ready for your tour of duty, this is your
hour. Are you being changed by the world or are you a world
changer? Are you a soldier?
