Reflection #2 on 'Alive in Love'
by The Swift
I am alive in love,
A love that will never die. Jesus,
Your love is what keeps me alive.
Are
you living in the love of Christ? In the song "Alive in Love,"
the group called The Swift declares that they are alive in
love. Are you? Look at these verses:
"See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and
death and adversity; in that I command you today to love the
LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments
and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and
multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the
land where you are entering to possess it" (Deuteronomy 30:15-16
NASB).
God was instructing the people of Israel as they went into
the land He had prepared for them. He told them to first love
Him and then to live in that love. How? By walking in His
ways, keeping His commands, statues, and judgments.
Jesus said very much the same thing:
"Jesus answered and said to him, 'If anyone loves Me, he will
keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come
to him and make Our abode with him'" (John 14:23 NASB).
To live in the love of Christ is to live out the love of Christ.
Living in His love is not a feeling, it is a state of being.
Living in the love of Christ is viewing the world, people
and circumstances from His perspective. It involves reacting
to situations in the way He would. Living in the love of Christ
is more than just accepting that love, it is learning to practice
that love.
Anyone who is married will understand what the group The Swift
is saying. When you get married your world suddenly changes.
You can no longer make all of your decisions based on just
what is best for you, or how you feel. Now you have to consider
your mate. What would they want to do? How would they react?
Living in the love of Christ is much the same. I no longer
rule my life, now I live by His love.
"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I
who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved
me and gave Himself up for me" (Galatians 2:20 NASB)
.So, how about you? Are you living in the love of Christ?
Are you walking in that love every day? Are you responding
to others from its mercy? Are you speaking from its grace?
Open the Bible and refresh your heart with His love, then
walk it out. You are only truly alive when you are alive in
His love.
