Reflection
#3 on 'Still the Cross' by FFH
Sometimes it seems that I have been forgotten
I don't know how I will make it on my own
But the One who said I will never be forsaken
He still hears my prayer and I will never be alone
Have
you ever felt forgotten? I have. But what I have come to realize
is that when I feel forgotten it is because there is something
I have forgotten.
"My people have become lost sheep;
Their shepherds have led them astray.
They have made them turn aside on the mountains;
They have gone along from mountain to hill
And have forgotten their resting place" (Jeremiah 50:6
NASB).
In this verse the prophet Jeremiah is quoting what God has
said about His people. They have forgotten their resting place.
And when I feel forgotten that is what I have done. When I
feel forgotten, I have forgotten my resting place. I have
forgotten the abiding presence of the Lord.
"Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and
I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 NASB).
Where is my place of rest? It is at the foot of the cross.
There Jesus took all my debts, all my sins, all my burdens
and nailed them to that cross. He, by His blood, cleansed
me of all unrighteousness and made me acceptable to God. I
am not abandoned or forgotten by the One who died for me,
but sometimes I forget His mercy and loving care.
In the song "Still the Cross," the group FFH sings
that it only seems that we are forgotten. Actually God will
never forsake us. And they are right. His ears are always
tuned to our hearts' cry. He is ever present with us. He has
set His love on us and will not withdraw it. I am not forgotten
and neither are you.
You may not see His hand at work. You may not understand what
He is doing in your life.
But know this, you are not alone, you are not forgotten.
At this very moment, God is reaching out to you, to comfort
and reassure you. Won't you reach back to Him? Open His Word
and listen with your heart. You can still find Him, every time
you turn to the cross.
