Reflection #1 on 'Fifteen' by Greg Long

There may be years in between,
But what if I'm fifteen?
What if I'm fifteen?

Are you ready to witness? I know it is a scary thing. I know it is intimidating. Telling someone about Jesus can be hard, but it is also one thing we are to be ready to do at any moment.

"But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence" (1 Peter 3:15 NASB).

God has given us the awesome privilege and responsibility of spreading the Gospel:

"Namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:19 NASB).

In the song "Fifteen," Greg Long sings about sharing the Gospel with a waitress. The premise of the song is that someone may hear the Gospel fifteen times before they respond. And it asks the question, "What if I am fifteen?" Even if it is the first time someone has heard or the fortieth, we are not responsible for his or her reaction, only our readiness and preparation to share the hope we have in Christ.

So, are you ready? If not, get ready! Go to the Word of God and rediscover the joy of your own salvation. Remind yourself of what Jesus has done for you and then prepare yourself to share that hope with others. You don't have to be a great public speaker or a theologian, just genuine and caring, armed with the Word of God-the Holy Spirit will do the rest. After all, you might be number fifteen.
