Reflection
#1 on 'Following You' by Jadon Lavik
Do you find these lines in Jadon Lavik's new song "Following
You" to be true?
This world has so much more clarity
With You walkin' right in front of me.
I
think it's true for me-life does have more clarity with Jesus
walking right in front of me. Part of that clarity comes because
life has a purpose now that life without Christ didn't have.
And that purpose-to live my life to glorify Christ and to please
God-brings clarity to the daily decisions I make. There is no
question about choosing something that would be blatantly against
the standards of the Bible, because I am a Christian and wouldn't
purposely disobey God.
And what about the decisions that are harder to make? God's
Spirit is there to give me guidance. Jesus, when He was still
on this earth, promised His followers a Helper.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your
remembrance all that I said to you" (John 14:26 NKJV).
So not only do we have a purpose that clarifies our lives, we
have a Helper, the Holy Spirit, who will teach us. I depend
on that. I often ask the Lord to teach me how to handle a situation
or to teach me how to look beyond my feelings to see clearly.
My husband, Dan, and I had to make a decision just two years
ago when he lost his job here in Nebraska. We could move to
another state so he could work in the office there, or he could
look for another job.
Making that decision was easier when we realized that we would
lose a lot of opportunities to impact the lives of our four
grandsons during their early years.
We chose to stay near our grandchildren and take less income,
because our faith makes us want to have time with them to teach
them about God. But if God had led us to move, I would have
asked Him to teach me how to grandparent by long distance.
"Following You" touches on another truth when Jadon tells us
that looking at Jesus causes him to see the real person he is.
Have you had those amazing moments of clarity when you are reading
the Scriptures and you realize that God is speaking to you?
Part of a verse jumps out at you, and you think, Oh, Lord, I
didn't realize that.
I want the clarity God brings to my life. And so I am singing
with Jadon: I'm following You. Yes, I'm following You.
