Reflection
#1 on 'The Space in Between Us' by Building 429
Look at my heart again
Look at the mess I've got it in
Is
your heart in a mess? In the song "The Space Between Us," the
group Building 429 sings about the mess they find their hearts
in at times, a mess of their own making.
I have made a mess of my heart before. When I seek to get from
people or things the acceptance and joy that can only be found
in Christ, I make a mess of my heart. And I usually make a mess
in the hearts of others, too.
The Bible instructs us to guard our hearts with all diligence.
The writer of Proverbs says:
"Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow
the springs of life" (Proverbs 4:23 NASB).
Our hearts, the center of our lives, is where the Spirit of
the Lord wants to make His home. And when we try to fill that
place with anything else, when we raise anything up to the place
reserved for God, we make a mess of our hearts and set ourselves
up for tragedy.
God has prepared something to fill even the emptiest of hearts.
"And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave
Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body,
the fullness of Him, who fills all in all" (Ephesians 1:22-23
NASB). God gave us Jesus to fill us all in all ways. In Him
we are complete (Colossians 2:10). He is all we need. He can
take any mess we make in our hearts and clean it up. That is,
if we will turn the mess over to Him.
Is your heart in a mess? If so, turn to the Lord today. He can
take your mess and make a melody of love. Just listen to Building
429; He turned their empty hearts into a song of praise. He
can do the same for you, today.
