Reflection
#1 on 'Healing Rain' by Michael W. Smith
Healing rain is coming down
It's coming closer to the lost and found
Tears of joy and tears of shame Are washed forever in Jesus'
name
Are you ready for the rain?
In
the song "Healing Rain," Michael W. Smith sings of the inevitability
of the healing rain of heaven coming. He sings that it will
fall on the lost and found. And he's right, but the question
is: "Are we ready for that rain?" Listen to the words of the
prophet Hosea:
"Sow with a view to righteousness,
Reap in accordance with kindness;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the Lord
Until He comes to rain righteousness on you" (Hosea 10:12 NASB).
The Bible tells us that we are to prepare for the rain from
heaven. We are to sow in righteousness. That means that as we
walk through the circumstances and situations of our lives we
need to watch that we react in ways that follow the rules of
righteousness.
There have been so many times in my life when I wanted to react
in anger or unforgiveness. But I am so grateful that at those
times the Spirit of the Lord convicts me with the phrase from
this verse, "sow in righteousness."
I might think I have a right to be angry or unforgiving but
acting in those unrighteous ways will only make the situation
worse and end up hurting me and others. Righteousness is always
right. Showing mercy is always the way of the Lord.
I have seen it work time and again. A kind word really does
turn away wrath (Proverbs 15:1). It is not always easy; as a
matter of fact, I have found that it takes far more strength
to be kind than cruel.
It takes more courage to ask for forgiveness than to demand
restitution. But these are the ways of righteousness; these
are the seed we sow. And when the rain of mercy comes from heaven,
these seeds of righteousness will burst forth as a bountiful
crop of joy and peace.
To all my friends out there today who may be reading this with
hurting hearts, know that your pain has not gone unnoticed.
But your reaction to the pain and hurts of these days will determine
the crop you reap tomorrow. Hold on. Do the righteous thing
today. The healing rain is coming. I am praying for you.
