Friend
of God on the album Let the Worshippers Arise performed
by Phillips, Craig & Dean
Who is your best friend? Who is the first person you would
call if you were in trouble? Mine is my sister. Now this is
a real miracle because when we were kids, our parents were
sure that one of us would not make it to puberty!
Sis and I shared a room until she moved out of the house,
and boy, did we have battles! She is older than me (and always
will be), and I was a bit, a slight bit, of a brat. OK, I
was a major brat, but I was a cute brat. Anyway, she and I
would launch into major upsets over basically nothing. But
when I turned 16 the miracle occurred, and Sis and I became
friends--best friends.
Even though we live 400 miles apart, we are still best friends.
I call her, she e-mails me and it is as if we have never been
apart. She always understands me, even when I don't understand
myself. And she has a really good heart; she sees the best
in people, especially when I forget to. I trust her judgment.
No one on earth knows me better than my sis and no one here
loves me more. But if I were in trouble, Sis is not the first
person I would call. That would be call number two. The first
person I would call out to is Jesus.
In the song "Friend of God," Phillips, Craig and Dean sing
that God calls them friend, and He does. Look at these verses:
"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not
know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends,
for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known
to you" (John 15:15 NIV).
Jesus called His disciples "friends," and He calls us the
same. Now you might say, "Suzy, how can you say that? Those
were His special followers!" I can say that because Jesus
looks at us in the same way He looked at these people--He
gave them His friendship. They did not earn it. He has done
the same for you. Have you accepted His friendship? Have you
looked to Him as Lord and Friend? Do you share your fears
with Him, your heartaches, your joys? Do you spend time with
Him? You can you know. Pick something you really enjoy, say
taking a walk, listening to music or shopping. The next time
you do that, ask the Lord to go along, just the way you would
ask a friend. You will be amazed at how close He can be to
you. He loves you. He wants to spend time with you. If you
have never accepted Him as Lord and Friend, do so today. Click
Meet Jesus. And whenever you feel alone, remember, you are
a friend of God.
