Ginny Owens...

Ginny Owens Bio

Although critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Ginny Owens has released seven projects in the last eight years, Bring Us Peace, is her very first journey into the world of holiday music.

“I’ve always thought that a Christmas record was something I’d do some day,” the award-winning musician explains. “I think I’ve been waiting for the perfect songs and the perfect time. And both have finally arrived.”

Bring Us Peace is an intimate, eclectic mix of original tracks, familiar tunes as well as some unexpected songs. From the Ray Charles-esque blues tune “Nothin’ for Christmas,” in which Owens pours out her Mississippi soul, to the angelic, a capella “Ave Maria,” arranged by Owens, this record provides an extraordinarily unique listening experience for all.

Owens co-produced Bring Us Peace with her long-time friends and touring mates bassist Tony Lucido and drummer Will Sayles.

“We all think alike,” Owens said of the recording experience. “We generally like to take the same risks, and we enjoy the same type of production. Lots of the tracks went to tape without much editing, so there are squeaking piano pedals, emotional vocal takes, and even a six-and-a-half-minute song without a click. There was no one there to tell us we couldn’t, so we did.”

Ginny Owens has been playing piano since she was two years old, which was just around the time she lost her eyesight. After completing her degree in music education, Owens signed on as a staff songwriter at BMG Music and soon acquired a record deal with Michael W. Smith’s Rocketown Records. In the past eight years, Owens has performed at such prestigious events as Lillith Fair, The Sundance Film Festival, and White House South Lawn Tee Ball. She has created her own non-profit, The Fingerprint Initiative, a service organization that seeks to “bring hope to the world, one touch at a time.”

Fifty percent of the proceeds from Bring Us Peace sales will be donated to Fingerprint’s many service projects. This, in fact, was one of the initial inspirations for Owens’ decision to make a Christmas record.

Owens says of Bring Us Peace, “This might be my favorite project yet. It is intimate, conversational, stylistically diverse, and really creative. And more than this, it is my Christmas gift to all who will listen. In a time when the world seems to be at war, Bring Us Peace is my humble and passionate prayer for all mankind.” Courtesy ginnyowens.com
