To get the most from Growthtrac, you need to have your cookies enabled. To learn how, click here.

There are currently a lot of rumors floating around about how Web servers can use cookies to monitor your personal information and keep track of where you've surfed. Since Growthtrac uses cookies for a variety of different functions, some users have expressed concerns about their privacy.

Yes, Growthtrac does use cookies—but not in any way that would compromise your privacy. Growthtrac does not gather cookie information for marketing purposes; we do not trace your browsing habits; and we do not (and could not) use cookies to collect any personal information about you.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a simple line of text that a Web server (like Growthtrac) asks your browser to remember for future use. A typical cookie may store your user name and password for a specific site on the Web.

There a two kinds of cookies. A session cookie is a line of text that is stored temporarily in your computer's RAM. Because a session cookie is never written to a drive, it is destroyed as soon as you close your browser. A persistent cookie is a more permanent line of text that gets saved by your browser to a file on your hard drive. If you do not register then none of these persistent cookies will be stored on your machine.

Web sites cannot make direct changes to your local cookies file, only your browser can do that. Your browser—whether it's Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer—has security features built in which prevent servers from randomly writing information to your hard drive. If you turn off the cookie feature in your browser, your hard disk is 100% safe. However, even when the cookie feature is on, server information can only be written to your local cookie file, and that information can only be retrieved by the server that wrote it.

In other words, if your browser currently accepts cookies, it will remember whatever Growthtrac asks it to. However, it would never release Growthtrac cookies to any other internet site.

What do we use cookies for? Cookies are used for many purposes on Growthtrac including:
Tracking to make sure pop up ads are not displayed more often than they should be
Polling: Whenever you vote in a poll, we have your browser keep track of that information so you can't vote more than once.
Growthtrac Community: In our message boards, we use cookies to remember your password and username so you don't have to.
We use cookies to track traffic on Growthtrac. This information is only used internally and does not identify you personally.
Miscellaneous cookies: Once in a while, we'll use cookies in things like games, quizzes, or other features. But again, we only use them to make the feature work better —never to gather information on you.
