Hi There, thanks for posting.

I'm guessing your reception will be held at the church?

• What does your church say about dancing?
• If your pastor gives a green light, I say go with it.

• And if your reception is not at the church, I say the decision
is up to you and your fiance/husband.

I don't know of any scripture text saying dancing is wrong.

In fact, I know of several examples of people dancing in the bible.

Your parents' statement is probably based upon personal feelings
or perhaps this is denominational thing. (i.e. Some denominations
frown on dancing, not biblically-based, but based on tradition.)

Perhaps your parents might be embarrassed or feel
their friends might be offended?

If you read through the bible, weddings were a time of celebration. I don't find specific reference to no dancing in the bible.
In Ecclesiastes 3 it says there is a time to dance.

It sound like you want to honor your parents. Sometimes during wedding preparation there can be a fine line between honoring them and boundaries with their involvement or desires to have the wedding they wish for you, rather than the wedding you wish for yourself.

I don't see anything wrong with having a dance for you and your husband as a time to celebrate all that God has done for your relationship and marriage. I believe if you are very careful to pick a song whose words lift up and glorify God, that you will still honor your parents.
Chris Tomlin's - "How Great Is Our God" or Darlene Zchech from Hillsongs - "Jesus, What a Beautiful Name", or Brian Littrell's - "In Christ Alone" would be some great choices.

Psalm 149:1-4
Hallelujah! Sing to God a brand-new song,
praise him in the company of all who love him.
Let all Israel celebrate their Sovereign Creator,
Zion's children exult in their King.
Let them praise his name in dance;
strike up the band and make great music!
And why? Because God delights in his people,
festoons plain folk with salvation garlands!

Psalm 150:3-5
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Thank you both for your response....we are both still praying about it...and going to be talking to our Pastor about it...but the bottom line is we dont want to shame our Saviours name.
God bless

I have studied and prayed about this question/problem alot this week and I now belive that it would not be honouring to my Lord to have a first dance...only because it is hyporcritical (in the sence that we can dance but we won't allow others to dance because they may with their type of dancing embarous our Lord or other Christians at the dinner) and it may pose a stumbling block for me/us to tell an unsaved soul that night about our Saviour and King. My only request is that Christ opens up my fiances heart so that she can see it that way and that we can use that time and the time after dinner more efficiently to praise God and even tell someone about what He has done in our lives via our Testimony etc...pray for me and us...because my Fiances parents are not belivers and are pushing hard for dance etc. God Bless...& we are always victorious through our Lord Saviour and King.
