Here's a good one for you...

Lucifer is believed to have been an archangel, like Michael, before his fall. Now, since all that God creates is perfect and holy, especially His angels, how did Lucifer have it in his heart to sin?

Angels were created for the purpose of praising God. Rev. 7:11 says the angels were all around the throne and they worshipped. Some angels blow the trumpets in Rev., some worship. Angels have also been used as messengers of God. Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1:11-20, as well as sending that awesome news to Mary in Luke 7:26-38. An angel appeared to Joshua as well in Joshua 5:13-6:5 to bring instructions from the Lord on how to defeat Jericho. Angels nowadays act as protectors and guides as we walk through life as God's disciples. They surround us and battle with unseen satanic forces for us. These angels were made perfect for God's useful purposes. They do not sin, they do not need redemption, they are pure and white. How then did Lucifer, one of the highest angels in heaven, get sin in his heart??

Anybody have an answer, or an opinion?

Kelly

I recently read a book on angels by Billy Graham and he got me started on the subject. He stated that angels are blameless and sinless, therefore not needing redemption. That's why we will be higher than angels when we get to heaven, b/c we have been sinners yet redeemed. We know God's forgiveness, His grace, salvation, etc., the angels don't. The bible supports this in 1 Peter 1:10-12, "...Even angels long to look...", Hebrews 1:14, angels were sent to "serve" us (this is b/c we, thru salvation, are higher than them, and I know I did actually read a scripture right from the bible saying that we will be higher than the angels, but I can't find it now). Anybody have any correlating scripitures...? I will continue to look for more...

I'm still open to opinions on why/how satan fell...Nobody has an opinion?

Ok, I did some further studying, as this was not settling well in my spirit and it turns out Billy Graham was not so much on the mark. I don't have the book right now to quote from it, but he did state that we are higher than the angels b/c we sin and are saved. The angels don't get to experience this b/c they are sinless...well, the angels are NOT sinless!

JOB 4:18 "If God places no trust in His servents, if He charges His angels with error,"...

1 Cor. 6:3 "Do you not know that we will judge angels?"

2 Peter 2:4 "For if God did not spare angels when they sin, but sent them to ####..."

Jude 1:6 "And the angels who did not keep thier positions of authority but abandoned thier own home-these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."

So what is everybody's opinions on Billy Graham? I have never watched or read anything of his before, but now am very disappointed. If anybody has access to a Christian library, find "Angels" by Billy Graham and find what I am talking about...Maybe I mis-understood something, but I'm usually a pretty good student. I'm glad I decided to ask questions as this wasn't making sense to me! Now I know why!

Kelly and other posters,
Thought provoking question, Kelly.
On your question of how did Satan get sin in his heart, I have some insight for you into the question from the Bible.

"Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made..." (Genesis 3:1). Cunning is defined as sly, crafty. He was created as a beautiful creation before Adam and Eve.

All throughout the Bible, we can read about how God knows the heart (ex., Acts 15:7). God created the hearts of his creation to have choice. Even animals have choices, ex., a dog whether to chase a car or not, but creatures with brains created to think such as man and angels have thought process and can chose between evil and good. We have the gift of freedom to think and with that freedom comes the power to serve God or not.

The devil's expulsion from heaven to earth means this world becomes his base of operation and the beginning of spiritual warfare. "So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Rev. 12:9).

The angels do not have power like God or above God. We can see an example in 2 Peter 2:11 where angels are great in power and might but when they need to rebuke someone they do it in the name of the Lord. "The Lord rebuke you!" said Michael the archangel to the devil in Jude 9.

"And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day" Jude 6. These angels will not be in heaven upon the final judment.

The Son is better than the angels because He sits at the right hand of God. Jesus, the Son, is perfect. The angels are ministers, servants of God.

The good news is as Christians we are the saints of God. "Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?" (1 Cor. 6:2,3).

The promises of the Bible, God Holy Word, are our living hope.
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the wespons of our warfare are not carnal but might in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled" (2 Cor. 10:3-6).
