Marriage Expectations

When you were married, what were your expectations for married life? Were they realistic or unrealistic?

Some of mine were -

My husband would always help me with the housework.
My husband would always pay the bills.
My husband would always make enough money to support us.
We would always love each other no matter what.
My husband would always love my family unconditionally.
My husband and I would always be romantic.
My husband would never speak a mean word to me.

Wow...You had some high expectations!!

I learned long ago to not have expectations, if I can help it. When you expect something from someone else, it means that they have to perform to make you happy. I expect myself to perform and live up to expectations that God has for me and then I pray for my needs to be met by God.

I find that I suffer less disappointment this way. I do sometimes get some expectations that sneak in and catch me by surprise, and that is why I am now in counseling with my hubby...*smile*...But I try to see people as fallible and human, and covered in grace, just like I hope others see me!!!
