Hey
This as been on my mind. It says in the bible~ And I say whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. ~ Does this mean not to marry again?? |

usmc, welcome.
Can you put this into context for us? Are you
thinking about a particular situation? |

Why has this been on your mind?
Perhaps this particular version (NLT) makes a little more sense.
Matthew 5:32
But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
The way I understand this is if you divorce your wife for any other reason than her own unfaithfulness to the marriage, you are committing adultery.
And anyone who would marry her after a divorce would also be committing adultery because she was never meant to be released from your marriage vows to begin with in the eyes of God.
If you cross reference to Matthew 19:3-12 which also addresses divorce, it appears what Jesus was answering was the question, "Can a man divorce his wife for any reason??" Jesus' answer was no - the only reason is if the wife is unfaithful.
Hope that helps. |
