After 29 years, I finally figured out the answer to my question..."Why did God let me be abused."

For anyone who has been emotionally, physically, and/or sexually abused-the effects can last a lifetime if not dealt with. But with being abused, we tend to hide our true selves very well. We don't deal with the abuse for many reasons, yet day after day it slips into our mind and we replay the abuse. It continues to weaken us, destroy us. We live a lie. If people knew, they wouldn't like me, I'm dirty....

Does any of this sound familiar? As you can tell, I lived with that abuse for a long time and got to know it well. But I gotta tell you, there is healing and there is freedom from your past. So if the Son has set you free, you are truly free. ( John 8:36 )

I attended a 11 week class at my church. Our curriculum included a workbook from http://www.committedtofreedom.org/home.html and the book My Father's Child by Lynda Elliott and Vicki Tanner

I hope anyone who has suffered abuse will seek help. Even if it was a one time thing that lasted 5 minutes....if it causes you pain, you need to heal it. To calm a couple of fears, we were never required to tell anyone anything about the abuse we went through. Likewise, you will not be required to ever talk to your abuser. Do not go through these books alone. Having support, encouragement, and some trusted knowledge person is a must. I know I couldn't have gone through this class without my classmates. I would have been crushed, but they kept me going. Now, the Lord is my strength.

God bless you. And if anyone has any questions, you may send me a pm and I'll answer you the best I can. (I'm not a trained counselor, just someone who is healing from the past. See a trained professional please.)

I am new here just kind of finding my way thru, but as a child I too was abused, I am an adult now, but the pain and awful memories are still there. I have moved past much of it, but the memories are so vivid. I found that to pray often and ask Him to heal me has helped and little by little the bad memories slowly fade. Bless you!

(((HUGS for granny rosie)))) Those books I mentioned are absolutely wonderful! I thought I was getting past my abuse until something really bad happened almost exactly a year ago. It made me go back to the same little child who sat in a dark room in a corner who cried non-stop. Until we fully deal with these problems, we can't fully be healed. I was amazed going through this class finding out how deeply the abuse had effected me. I didn't realize alot of my "quirks" that I thought was unique to me actually was very common in people who were abused. I highly recommend these books. I can't begin to describe the peace and joy that I've recieved. I no longer have the pain or vivid memories! One of the reasons I stressed not to go through the books alone is because you dig so deeply into your past. Many of us in the class started remembering things we had long ago forgotten about. It's so much better to really deal with your problems now than to carry them with you the rest of your life. It's draining to carry that past with you, it even effects your prayer life. I hope you'll go through the book My Father's Child. (Committed to Freedom deals with sexual abuse. The book deals with all 3 abuses.) I can't stress enough how important it is to go through these books. It has truely been life changing for me and my classmates. My heart goes out to you. It's always sad to find another person you can relate to in that way, but at least I can tell you there is a happy ending. God bless you and may you find total freedom and healing. If you ever need to talk, you know how to find me. (((HUGS)))

thank you CMcC! it is best to talk it out instead of keeping it all in. My abuse was a long time ago, and as I said, prayer is helping me thru the bad times and memories, but every now and then something pops up and there is that old memory again. Bless you my friend

I'm so excited! We are preparing for the next class in August. I've been in charge of putting the web site together. We will be adding it to the church's web site VERY soon. Can't wait to go public! The design didn't turn out like I had hoped, but I think it will get the job done. Smile Please pray for the leaders and upcoming students. Smile We may even have a virtual classrom available some day! Anyway, I like comments and suggestions. Take a look and let me know what you think.
